NJ WATERSAVERS

RESIDENTS Background Information

Throughout New Jersey, families just like yours are busy tending to their daily lives, making sure that their children are comfortable, happy, and well-educated.  These families take pride in their beautiful lawns, gardens, and shrubbery...and unknowingly waste thousands of gallons of water every year.

Inspired by an Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey family who designed the interior and exterior of their home for maximum water savings by following the United States Environmental Protection Agency WaterSense™ Specifications for New Homes, these videos are free to download and available for your use.

The videos were created to help families save water and money by making a few simple changes:

  • A family of four could save as much as $75 a year just by turning off the tap while brushing their teeth in the morning and at night.

  • By fixing a leaky toilet a family could save $210 more.

  • If a family of four switched from taking daily baths to short five minute showers they would save up to $490 in just one year.

  • A family could save as much as 25,000 gallons and up to $162 a month just by running an automatic irrigation system two times a week instead of four.

And remember, while each change you make may not result in a lot of savings, the more you do, the more money you will have to enjoy going out to dinner or on vacation with your family.

New Jersey Water Savers has worked on water conservation programs that blend education and indoor and outdoor conservation.  The purpose of these programs is to educate the public and decision makers through a combination of outreach efforts.
